Pronouns. They can be tricky! And misusing them may very well be one of your colleagues’ or supervisors’ pet peeves.
One very common mistake in business writing is to use the pronoun “their” to refer to a corporation. When it comes to grammar, corporations and businesses aren’t considered people. So be sure to use “its.” Use “their” to refer to people and groups of people, such as employees.
Here are a few examples:
- Qual Corp recently amended its social media policy.
- We’re excited to announce that KMC Communications will be honored for its employee volunteering program.
- Selected Qual Corp employees will attend training to improve their understanding of social media.
